Outdoors
Where the Sound meets Main Street
Edmonds sits right on the Salish Sea, and that shapes almost everything I love about spending time there. I like walking along the waterfront and watching the ferry pull out for Kingston, a crossing that takes about half an hour and never gets old to watch from the shore.
If I have my dog with me, we head for the enclosed off leash area at the south end of Marina Beach Park, open from dawn to dusk; it is one of the few off leash areas that sits right on the beach. Edmonds has what I would call perfectly Pacific Northwest small-town vibes, and a lot of that comes from the patio restaurants lining the streets near the waterfront, where I like to sit outside whenever the weather lets me.
Recreation
A museum, and a distillery I still need to try
The Cascadia Art Museum on Sunset Avenue is one of my favorite stops in Edmonds; its collection focuses on Northwest art from 1870 to 1970, and it is free to visit on the third Thursday of every month. Strolling through their gorgeous gardens out front makes the trip worthwhile on its own.
Right in the same building, Scratch Distillery has been on my list for a while; I have not made it in for a tasting yet, but it is at the top of my Edmonds bucket list the next time I am downtown.
