Parks
Marymoor, and the dog park I always mention first
Marymoor Park is the first place I send anyone with a dog; my own could spend an entire afternoon in the off leash area there. The park itself is enormous, with athletic fields, walking trails, a community garden, and the historic Clise Mansion tucked into the grounds.
When I want something a little quieter, I like Farrel-McWhirter Farm Park, which has a free barnyard with horses, goats, and chickens that is open every day of the year, or Idylwood Beach Park on Lake Sammamish, which is a free public swimming beach on the lake.
Recreation
Concerts on the lawn and a festival I never miss
Marymoor Live puts on a full summer concert series on the park’s lawn, and I try to catch at least a couple of shows there every year. The park is also home to the region’s only velodrome, a 400 meter cycling track that has hosted USA Junior Cycling national championship racing.
And every July, Redmond throws its Derby Days festival downtown, with live music, bike races, an arts and crafts market, and a closing drone light show; it is one of the few weekends I try to keep clear every summer.
